ABOUT PEN GWYN FLIES

Fishing and being on the water has and always will be a deep seated passion of mine. I first got hooked on fishing in general (pardon the terrible pun!) aged 13 on a family trip to the wilds of Colorado. We were living in Texas at the time and went out of state to see friends near Denver, a place called Ute Lodge. That long weekend firmly put fishing for wild brown trout on the favourites list for me!

My Dad was the one that taught me to fly fish and to respect the river - without him, who knows! With a horse to look after as well and an unfortunate 5 years of bad health on my part, fishing did take a bit of a back seat, until I left University at 21. Once home (and momentarily jobless!), I picked up the rod again and hit the water with my Dad - the addiction was born!

It was also my Dad that taught me to tie flies. He learnt as a young boy growing up in Brecon, West Wales, tying small dries and nymphs to tempt the wild browns of the Usk of an evening.

After meeting my partner, Lee (who also fishes - jackpot!), in 2014 and eventually buying our first house together, it wasn't until 2017 that I actually bought my first vice and really got into tying my own flies - since then every spare moment has been spent on the vice, learning and perfecting techniques and developing my "style"

Enjoy! Tight lines - PGF
